Bad Vases!

Hey everyone,
So vases are not coming along so well. Apparently I don't know how to make vases, since they all just fall apart or I drop them on the ground. So, to any of you who were looking forward to maybe having one, try DI, they have cheap ones! Other than that, I have my bowls that are all done and glazed, they are just beautiful! A couple didn't quite get enough glaze but most are perfect. I will get pictures up sometime this weekend. I am also doing a podcast on ceramics, so be watching www.kelciek.com for that. This is my next print that I am working on. It will be an edition of 10, but I already have several that are practice ones. I will update the pic soon, with a better one. The rest of these pics are the rest of the bowls.

Pots update

Hello Everyone!
Well, here is the update on the pots, I am making some. I have several bowls and mugs which need glazed and then we are starting on vases. So, if anyone would like a vase, please let me know. They will be due on Wednesday Feb 25 and I need to make about 10. I am not quite sure what size they will be, it will be only as much as I can! I will keep you updated about when things will be done. It takes longer to get things done in ceramics, because everything needs fired, then glazed and fired again. Anyway, here are some pics of what I have done so far. Nothing has been glazed yet, but I will get on that!

New Info

Hey Everyone!
I just wanted to update you on what I am doing, and clarify some things. I didn't really say, so I will now. I can change colors on the prints, to some extent. The colors are blue, green, gray, browns (sepia brown, darker brown and brown black) to several blacks (gray, blue black and just plain deep black). All the paper that I use is the same, it is a cool white color. The paper for the red dots will stay red. If you have any other questions, please email me.

Also, I have several prints in stock, so if you like the colors of the ones shown, you can get yours quickly. If you want a different color, it will take a little longer, but only about 2 days or so. Just email me and let me know.

I just got paypal all set up for purchasing the prints, but email me first, before you pay for anything! Since I am new to this, there might be glitches, so don't pay until I tell you to.

Prints- a lesson and a look

This piece is called Fad-E. It is a print. For those of you who don't know what that means, to make a print, I start with a copper plate and engrave with a needle the image I want. I then cover the plate with ink and then put a piece of paper over top of it and run it through a press. This transfers the image from the plate to the paper, like screen printing for T-Shirts. That is called drypoint. There are other ways, like hardground, where you put wax over the plate, then carve into the wax, then you etch the plate in acid and it etches wherever you carved. The technique I used for Fad-E is called Aquatint. This means that I put a powder, called rosin, onto the plate and then I melt it onto the plate and then etch the plate. To get different shades of gray, you etch it for different amounts of time. The darker you want, the longer you etch it for. To stop it etching in a certain place, you cover that spot with red stop out. That 'stops out' that spot so the acid can't etch it anymore. The red and white circle were created by a process called Chine Cole, prononuced sheen cole a. It is where you put a piece of paper onto the plate with glue so as you run it through the press it is glued onto the paper. The red circles were made by this. The white circle was made by doing the same thing, but without the glue so it came off, leaving the white circle.

I named this print Fad-E because the red circles are fading into the squares, and also the squares are like a fad, and they are trying to follow the fad. I had also been watching a lot of Wall-E. :)


This print is called Moo. It started out very different from this, but ended up this way and I love it. To create the white dots, the stars, I put a aquatint on it, with something called Lump Rosin. This is the same stuff as normal rosin, but it is in big lumps. I drypointed the cow. The ink is called Brunt Sepia, I used it instead of normal black.
This print is called Princess Pea. It is drypoint. This is one of my first prints, it was very fun to do. I wanted to tell the story without showing the whole story. I wanted to create something I could put in my kids room, like a book on a wall kinda thing. I really love this print, I made lots because I think it is so cute.


This one is like the 1st one, it is called Stand Out, because the red circle stands out against the gray squares. This is also an aquatint with Chine Cole. This is really my first aquatint and also my first abstract artwork. It was very fun and I am continuing in the abstract area. It is fun, because you are not influencing people by what the art work is about, but influencing how they feel, you are creating a feeling for them.

All of these prints are 5X7 with about 2 inches of paper around them. Let me explain about the numbers on the bottom left hand corner. All prints are numbered because each print is a unique work of art, even though they are all supposed to look the same. When you make a lot of prints, it is called an Edition. The prints are numbered as a fraction, like 3/5, which means that print is the 3rd in an edition of 5. All my prints are numbered, titled and signed by me, which makes them official prints.
